James Y. Rayis is a member of the Atlanta, Georgia office of the firm. He works on international client issues in corporate transactions, joint ventures, mergers, international licensing and distribution, intellectual property and telecommunications. An economics graduate of Michigan State University and a graduate from the University of Georgia School of Law, Mr. Rayis is Chairman of the American Bar Association International Section Middle East Committee. He is admitted to practice in the trial courts of Georgia, Colorado and Michigan, including the State of Georgia Appeals and Supreme Court. He is authorized to represent clients in federal trial matters and appeals before U.S. District Courts and the Eleventh and D.C. Circuit U.S. Courts of Appeal, as well as the U.S. Court of International Trade. Mr. Rayis heads an Iraq Initiative representing business interests in the rebuilding of a stable, tolerant, and prosperous Iraq and represents client in the rebuilding of Iraq today. He was an advisor to several Iraqi Governing Council members in forming the Temporary Administrative Law now in effect in Iraq.
He is named one of Atlanta's top lawyers in the 2004 edition of Atlanta Business Chronicle, Who's Who Among Atlanta's Top 50 and in the President's Award List of AIJA, the Association International des Jeunes Avocats (Brussels). Mr. Rayis is co-Chair of the ChaldoAssyrian National Council of America. He speaks French and Aramaic.
James Rayis is a frequent speaker on legal topics covering issues such as legal developments in international business and asset transfer, technology and telecommunication regulations, human rights responsibilities of business and corporations in international trade, and legal aspects of doing business in Iraq. He is a lecturer to groups such as the U.S. Department of Commerce's foreign business center seminars, the Southern Center for International Studies, Kiwanis International, Rotary Club, The International Trade Council of Georgia, The Democracy Project, Freedom House, and a lecturer in continuing legal education for lawyers at the International Bar Association, l'Union Internationale des Avocats, the American Bar Association International Section, the State Bar of Georgia and other bar associations.
