United Petroleum Technologies (UPTEC)
is a training and consulting firm established by Dr. Djebbar Tiab to provide short-term technical courses and corporate training to the oil and gas industry. Dr. Tiab is the founder and director of the University of Oklahoma Graduate Program in Petroleum Engineering in Algeria, which started in July 1997 on the campus of the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP), and is now in its final phase. The program had its first intake in of students in 1999 and became the primary source of petroleum engineers for the oil industry of Algeria, especially for its biggest oil company SONATRACH. Dr. Tiab has been Technical Editor of the Egyptian Petroleum Journal since 1993. Dr. Tiab has demonstrated expertise, experience, and capability to deliver technical oil and gas training in the Middle East.
UPTEC instructors are all Professors from various U.S. universities, including University of Oklahoma, the University of Texas, West Virginia University, New Mexico Tech, Montana Tech, Louisiana State University, the University of Alaska, Texas Tech University and the University of Tulsa. Courses offered are five days long and are followed by four days workshops. Courses are in Reservoir Engineering and Simulation, Drilling and Well Completion, Petroleum Engineering and Advanced production. Special focus is made on transferring U.S. petroleum technologies to the client's technical staff through applied simulations using actual field data provided by the client and/or simulated field data.
UPTEC's courses are targeted at petroleum engineers who have not been keeping up to date with recent developments in the industry and would like to quickly acquire new techniques in the field of reservoir engineering and simulation.
